Science Physics Optics

Optical Physics by H. Lipson,

Optical Physics by H. Lipson,
Optical science, the science that studies the nature of light, can be approached from several different angles. In this third edition of a successful and well-established text, the author focuses on physical and geometrical optics. The text is based largely on Fourier analysis and shows how this method can be used to describe wave propagation and diffraction and their applications to imaging, microscopy, X-ray crystallography, radio-astronomy, and communication. Several new sections have been added, including discussions of super-resolved imaging (near field and confocal microscopy), phase-retrieval in optical and X-ray diffraction, phase-conjugate imaging, astronomical speckle masking, and squeezed-light interferometry. Throughout, the subject matter is developed by a combination of unsophisticated mathematics and physical intuition. The very broad range of subjects treated, together with the inclusion of many problems and over 300 diagrams and photographs, will make the book of great use to undergraduate and graduate students of physics, and to anyone working in the field of optical science.

Optical Materials by Joseph Simmons,
Optical Materials by Joseph Simmons,
This book presents, in a unified form, the underlying physical and structural processes that determine the optical behavior of materials. It does this by combining elements from physics, optics, and materials science in a seamless manner, and introducing quantum mechanics when needed. The book groups the characteristics of optical materials into classes with similar behavior. In treating each type of material, the text pays particular attention to atomic composition and chemical makeup, electronic states and band structure, and physical microstructure so that the reader will gain insight into the kinds of materials engineering and processing conditions that are required to produce a material exhibiting a desired optical property. The physical principles are presented on many levels, including a physical explanation, followed by formal mathematical support and examples and methods of measurement. The reader may overlook the equations with no loss of comprehension, or may use the text to find appropriate equations for calculations of optical properties.

International Solar-Terrestrial Physics Science Initiative - The International Solar-Terrestrial Physics Science Initiative is an international research collaboration between NASA, the ESA, and ISAS. Its goal is to study phenomena related to the Sun, solar wind and its effects on Earth.

Imaging Science - Imaging science is a field concerned with the generation, collection, duplication, analysis, and modification of images. Subfields within Imaging science include: digital image restoration, digital imaging, remote sensing, magnetic resonance imaging, microdensitometry, color science, astronomical imaging, ultrasound imaging, holography, radar imaging, optics, radiometry, atmospheric optics, silver halide photography, digital photography, and xerography.

Engineering physics - Engineering physics (EP) is an academic degree, usually at the level of Bachelor of Science. Unlike other engineering degrees (such as aerospace engineering or electrical engineering), EP does not necessarily include a particular branch of science or physics.

Triple Award Science - Triple Award Science, unlike Single award science and Double Award Science, is not combined GCSE study of science - rather, the term is a short-hand reference to individual GCSE subjects in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. For example, if one studies Double Award Science, on their GCSE certificate, they will be credited with two GCSEs in Double Award Science.
